Honda on Monday announced that sporting director Gil de Ferran is leaving the team with immediate effect.
The Brazilian and former Indy 500 winner joined the Brackley based squad when it was known as BAR in April 2005.
A statement said the parting is with “mutual agreement” so that de Ferran, 39, can “pursue other opportunities”.
“I am disappointed that Gil is leaving our team,” said team principal Nick Fry.
“Gil has become increasingly uncomfortable in his role and feels the time has now come to seek fresh opportunities.”
De Ferran added: “I simply feel that I came to this team to fulfil a particular role and it has not materialised as I had hoped.”
