Trulli suspects illegal electronic aids in use

Jarno Trulli says he is concerned that the banning of electronic aids has returned the spectre of cheating to formula one.
Toyota’s Italian driver is quoted as telling the magazine Autosprint that, eight weeks before the opening race of 2008, some rival teams may have found a way around the new standard electronics developed and supplied by McLaren Electronic Systems.
He suspects that some teams are already using illegal forms of launch and traction control in pre-season testing.
“I’m not saying someone’s cheating, even though we’ve received some conflicting information at Toyota,” Trulli, 33, said.
“But having analysed the behaviour on the track both now and in the tests in December, the changes between them are many — and in several cases suspicious,” he added.
- Mosley annoyed by early cheating claims
- Schu to test at Jerez - Baldisserri
- F1 to ‘forget’ TC after few races - Alonso
- Webber plays down Barca test triumph
- More crashes likely at Monaco in ‘08 - Haug

Uh-oh. Jarno Trulli is not the sort of driver to talk about this sort of thing without good reason. If there’s good reason to believe teams have already found ways to cheat, then that negates the original argument for the standard ECU (easy prevention of electronic cheating) null and void. We are left with only the cost-cutting argument, which is not especially strong…
MR. TRULLI NEEDS TO IDENTIFY THOSE TEAMS TTHAT ARE “SUSPICIOUS”
hey he cut his hair!
I like that BFD, keeping it real—- lol
i agree jarno should tell us who. It is very dangerous to cast blanket suspicion.
Yeah, he cut his hair at last. The problem with saying which teams he suspects are still using a form of TC is that he might then have to prove it. Which might be a little bit difficult, seeing that nobody is going to tell him how it’s done. By voicing his suspicion, he could get the FIA interested, however.
The teams should be informed that ANY team found to be cheating will be banned from competition for life. If drivers in the 30s could handle cars like the Mercedes 125 with skinny little tires and 750 hp what’s wrong with these guys?
I think what is wrong is the fact that the technology is there and they cant use it. But they know that someone else will. Just the thought that someone else “will” use it and thus “cheat” makes other teams “cheat”. The drivers can handle it. The teams can not afford to handle it. That is why it is my opinion that most if not all teams will cheat in some form or another this year. Trying to put the “TC” genie back in the bottle is going to be more difficult then just a rule I am afraid.
Also, the FIA have given arbitrary levels of punishment for arbitary actions too many times for an expulsion threat to be taken particularly seriously. I think openwheel is right, though - many of the teams, particularly the well-heeled and insecure ones, will feel compelled to cheat (whether all the efforts will warrant inverted commas is open to debate).
Here’s a novel idea that solves the problem: ban ECUs…
And presumably all other electronics. Though I can imagine the uproar from David Coulthard and co. if they took away the car-to-pit radios for fear someone might hide traction control technology in there…
Enlighten me Alianora–What do you mean by “hide traction control technology there” seriosly I dont understand. I mean cant we ban all electronics except pit to car radios?
